The S6 was launched in 1994 and since then has evolved into the extremely powerful, well tuned machine it is today. With a 0-60 time of just 5.1 seconds there is no doubt this is a car set to challenge the likes of the BMW M5 and Mercedes AMG.

The fact that this car was built with the purpose of being extremely powerful whilst maintaining many luxuries that add substantial weight automatically makes you aware that this car isn't very green and will be costing you a small fortune in running due to the high price of petrol; it struggles to do even 18 mpg.

Recalls have occurred several times throughout the S6's history, the most recent of which was in 2004 for the possibility that there could be an electrical short if pressure was applied inside the car on the knee bolster. There were never any major problems with the S6 and the recalls were always for small problems with the wiring.

Some progressive technology has been fitted to the car such as Audi Lane Assist that vibrates the steering wheel if the driver threatens to wander out of its lane thereby preventing accidents.

The engine of the Audi S6 has evolved throughout the 14 years it has been in existence, starting with a 4.2 L V8 and developing into the 5.2 L V10 of today. This current 2008 Audi S6 engine is the same 5.2 L V10 that sits astride the Lamborghini Gallardo.

The Audi S6 has not been crash tested as yet, however its sister car the Audi A6 received a strong five-star rating from European NCAP who performed the independent crash tests.

Its powerful engine gives the S6 the ability to hit speeds up to 235 km per hour.

The new Audi S6 was built to win Audi's engineers in Ingolstadt some respect based on pure performance enabling the S6 to match up well against Mercedes-Benz rival, the E63 AMG.
