On October 14, 2008, 128 units of the 2008-2009 Civic Si were recalled because of problems at the assembly line, which did not install all the proper equipment of the fuel tank. This could have led to a fuel leak and increased the chances of a fire. All units affected had the missing part directly assembled.

The Si seems to be quite popular with car thieves. In the Insurance Bureau of Canada's report on top 10 most stolen vehicles in 2005, the 2000 Honda Civic Si 2-door is ranked number one followed only by the 1999 Honda Civic Si coupe, ranked at number two.
