The Nissan Qashqai, taking its name from an Iranian tribe's name, is produced by Japanese automaker Nissan since 2007 as a compact crossover SUV and is also manufactured at Nissan's NMUK, Washington Tyne and Wear plant since December 2006.

The Nissan Qashqai was introduced at the 2006 Paris Motor show and is the first model to be styled by Nissan Design Europe in London with its engineering development done by Nissan Technical Centre Europe in Cranfield, Bedfordshire.
