GM Europe launched Astra H/C in 2004 and was designated as Opel Astra GTC for European Markets, Sport Hatch in UK and Coupe in Australia and in 2005 OPC version of Opel Astra GTC was introduced.

The Opel Astra GTC has additional option of windscreen called 'panoramic windscreen' which extends into the roof area.

The Opel Astra GTC is available in Casablanca White, Panacotta, Magma Red, Peacock, Ultra Blue, Royal Blue, and Black Sapphire.

The Opel Astra GTC has features like speed up to 234 km/h, choice of nine diesel and gasoline engines with power outputs, TWINPORT and Common Rail Technologies to reduce fuel consumption to as low as 5.8 liters per 100 km.

The Astra plant in Antwerp, Belgium is producing Opel Astra GTC and the planned production volume is about 60,000 units per year and it is expected that Opel Astra GTC will make up about 1/6 of total Astra sales.

Opel Astra GTC has won the "Most Fashionable Vehicle" award presented by the Chinese Trading Center for Automobile Parts and Sina.com, the largest Chinese web portal.

The V shaped front end, "lightning flash" on a chrome bar near the radiator grille and the crease are some features which makes the Opel Astra GTC recognizable as a member of the Astra unit.
