On July 28, 1998, Opel recalled 13, 718 units of the Vectra in Japan because the parking breaks cable did not have sufficient strength, possibly resulting in its failure. All units affected had their parking brakes replaced.

Engines in the Vectra A, which ranged from a 1.4 L to a 2.0 Liter, had to be replaced by a 1.6 L with the same output because of the introduction of the Euro I emissions regulations, which had stricter standards.

Opel models have proven to be relatively unsuccessful in the U.S. market. In 2000, the Saturn L-series, a sister of the Vectra B, was introduced to the public, but dropped from the lineup in 2005 due to poor sales figures. It was later replaced by the Saturn Aura, modeled after the Vectra C.

The Vectra, introduced in 1988 as a replacement to the Opel Ascona, was recently replaced in 2008 by the Opel Insignia. In some markets, however, the Insignia will retain the Vectra name.
