The S80 has been a Hollywood favorite, earning spots in over 25 movies and shows including thrillers like The Haunting (1999) and Gone in 60 Seconds (2000).

Starting at $39, 600, the S80 does not retain much of it's value, losing almost $24, 500 in the first five years after being purchased, earning a below average value rating on automotive.com.

The second generation S80 was given the IIHS 2007 and 2008 Top Safety Pick Award in overall safety protection. The S80 outperformed its German and Japanese rivals with perfect Scores for frontal, side, and rear impacts.

The Volvo Owner's Club cites eight S80 recalls due to possible problems with the rear seat belts, loose tow bars, electrical short circuits, fuel leaks and others.

The S80 was offered with three different engines, two of them turbocharged. Volvo claimed a 0-60 time of 6.8 seconds, but most critics say it feels quicker than that. In fact, Edmunds.com noted that "even in a car that weighs more than 2 tons, we've timed the S80 V8 at 5.9 seconds for the 0-60-mph run." (Edmunds.com)

The 3.2 Liter engine delivers high levels of torque which in turn lower its mpg to a meager 20. It's reasonable to say that the S80 was not designed by environmentalists.

The emission level of Volvo S80 is 199 g/km for 2.OP SE and 151 g/km for 2.OD SE respectively.

Noted for its emphasis on safety technology, the S80 features some of the finest operational safety programs such as the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), which uses warning lights to alert the driver when another vehicle pulls up in the S80'S blind spot, one of the first systems of its kind.

Volvo's Personal Car Communicator (PCC) remote control will also be an optional feature with the new S80. The PCC comes with a heartbeat sensor that warns if someone is hiding inside the car.

Although the first generation Volvo S80 received one of the highest Crash Test Ratings for over five years, the second generation S80 has proven to be even safer than the first due to advanced engineering and a stiffer, more rigid chassis.
