In what is considered a serious drawback for possible owners, the Wolf Hybrid ranks sixth in the number of dog attack fatalities in the United States with approximately 14 hybrid-related fatalities between 1979 and 1998 alone. Their aggressive bursts are attributed to some of the characteristics of the dogs that the wolf is bred with, such as the German Sheppard.

These Wolf "hybrids" are a cross between a wolf and a domestic dog, a wolf and a wolf hybrid, a dog and a Hybrid, or two Hybrids. In 1992, however, scientists reclassified dogs and Wolves as the same species making the term "hybrid" obsolete.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates that at least 300,000 Wolf Hybrid live in the United States, the most for any country.

There is evidence of domesticated Wolf dogs dating back to over 10,000 years, and archeologists have pointed to ancient fossils as evidence of their use as mammoth hunters.

In the United States, some states have criminalized owning Wolf Hybrids. This may be because there is currently no vaccine for rabies that has been approved for wolfs so if a Wolf Hybrid ever bites somebody, it is likely to be confiscated and checked for the deadly disease.

Due to heterosis, Wolf Hybrids are said to have superior health and are less prone to inherited diseases than other dogs because of their ability to retain the more virtuous genes from both their parents.

Wolf Hybrid puppies typically sell at around $450-$900 USD.

Like other mixed-breeds, it is not easy to predict the physical characteristics of the cross between a wolf and a dog. Although both species have been present for over 10,000 years, they have interbred only occasionally since then.

Wolf Hybrids are expected to live anywhere between 10-12 years. It is ranged from 24-28 inches in height and can weigh anywhere between 60-90 lbs.
